Ah summer! There is nothing like it! One of the best things about summer is having some family fun on the open road, with a road trip. If you are trying to plan the best road trip; one that is family friendly, fun and with a lot of fun-filled memories, but one that is also as stress free as possible, you need to gather a few tips before you leave. Road trips versus a vacation are two very different things. On vacations, usually you end up getting on a plane or a train and you don’t have to worry about getting gas, stopping for food, or bathroom breaks - you can do all of that on the plane or the train. Also, when you go on a vacation, usually you have to plan less, just making sure you, your spouse and kids all have everything packed is good enough, but on a road trip things are different, much more detailed, and you really need to make sure that you think smart. If you need a few tips on how to make your road trip as stress free as possible, check out the guide below.
Make Sure Your Ride Is Ready!
You have one of two ways to go about a road trip. You can either take your car, or you can rent a car. Both have their own benefits. For example, if you have an older car that tends to stall a lot, or you need new tires, or maybe the AC goes haywire sometimes, you might be better off finding someplace where you can get a car rental in New Jersey. Car rentals aren’t as expensive - or elusive as they once were. You can now find an array of vehicles (cars, trucks, vans, etc.) that all have very fair prices for what you get. Some cars even offer extras like Sirius radio, seat warmers, GPS and more! On the other hand if you have a car that is yours and it can make it across the state or the country, and you think that you would rather take the road trip that way that is also a possibility! Make sure if you are driving your own vehicle though that it’s ready for the wear and tear you are about to put on it. The last thing you need is for the radiator to get too hot or for the tires to pop when you are out in the middle of nowhere!
Plan Your Route and Stops Before You Leave
You ever hear the saying, it’s better to be over-prepared than under-prepared? I think that’s an old scout’s adage or something. But, it holds true in almost every single situation, even this one. If you are going on a road trip, it doesn’t matter if it’s a place you know well or don’t know well at all it’s always a good idea to plan your route before you leave and your stops as well. These stops can be for bathroom breaks, food, sightseeing, landmarks, etc. Stopping every so often is a good way to not only get a break from the car, but from each other as well! Sitting in a car for 8+ hours straight with your family members can sometimes get a little stressful, especially if you are taking pets or kids along. Plus, stopping at landmarks and sightseeing is a part of road tripping! It’s one of the reasons people do this so often in the summertime because it’s a great way to get the family together, have some fun, take some pictures, and experience something new and invigorating.
Pack like A Pro!
So you know if you are going to rent a car or take yours, and you know your route and what stops you are going to take. Now comes the hard part: packing the car. The most important thing that you can do is create a list. It’s probably going to be pretty long, but it’s better to be prepared than to forget something important. Thankfully, you will be on the road, so if you forget something like toothpaste or a brush, you can just stop and buy one. When it comes to your actual bags and luggage consolidating the space in your bags, is of the utmost importance. Make sure you pack everything together in one bag as categorically as possible i.e.; all the bathroom stuff in one bag, all your clothes in one bad, your kids’ stuff in one bag etc. Make sure you also have an emergency bag, food bag, and toiletry bag for emergencies.
